Research Interest: Critical Refugee Studies and Third World Feminism to critically interrogate ideas of refuge(e)s, militarism and policing, and various imaginations of liberation and decolonial nationalism. My particular focus is during the period of U.S. militarism in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Saomai (they/she) is invested in themes of race and empire, critical and community-based methodologies, and imaginations of liberatory futures. They are particularly interested in exploring U.S. militarism and the war in Vietnam as a site of contact and inspiration for transnational activism, Third World solidarities, and (re)imagining a genealogy of liberatory Vietnamese American politics.
