Alexandra Blackman's research focuses on the relationship between political regimes and religious institutions. As a 2021–22 Global Public Voices fellow, she would like to draw attention to obstacles that undermine women's political representation in countries worldwide.

Blackman has conducted research in Egypt, France, Tunisia, and the United States.
