Cristina Florea’s research revolves around nationalism, empire, statehood, war, and regime change in nineteenth and twentieth-century Eastern Europe. She was a 2022–23 Global Public Voices fellow.

Her teaching and writing bridge the fields of German/Habsburg and Russian and Soviet history and are particularly concerned with state-society relations in contested regions and borderlands.
