Intensive Summer Language Program

The Southeast Asia Program at Cornell University collaborates with other universities in supporting and offering six summer intensive language opportunities. For more in-depth information regarding these programs as well as applications, click on the links provided.

Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI) is held for eight weeks on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Instruction is offered in the following languages at the first-, second- and third-year levels: Burmese, Hmong, Indonesian, Javanese, Khmer, Lao, Tagalog, Thai and Vietnamese.

Advanced Filipino Abroad Program (AFAP) is designed to provide intensive and specialized instruction in Filipino (Tagalog) for advanced students and teachers of Filipino and Philippine studies within its natural, cultural, and social context.

The Advanced Study of Khmer Language (ASKL) Program is an intensive six-week advanced Khmer language-training program held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The Consortium for the Teaching of Indonesian and Malay (COTIM) provides a ten-week intensive program in advanced Indonesian at the Universitas Sam Ratulangi in the province of North Sulawesi at Manado, Indonesia.

Advanced Thai Abroad (AST) at Chaing Mai University provides an intensive eight-week course for students with at least intermediate-level study of Thai language.

The Vietnamese Advanced Summer Institute (VASI) provides an eight-week intensive program in advanced Vietnamese in Hanoi
