Admissions

Can you send me an application for admission to Cornell?

The Peace Studies Program does not admit students to Cornell. If you will be an undergraduate, you should contact Undergraduate Admissions. If you intend to be a graduate student, contact one of the major fields of the Graduate School in order to get an admission packet and inquire about field admission requirements and deadlines.

Can I major in peace studies at Cornell?

The Peace Studies Program is not a degree-granting unit on campus. A graduate student may select the minor field of peace studies and peace science, but this is only possible after admission through one of the major graduate fields at Cornell.

Activities

Who can be involved in program activities?

Anyone with an interest in peace studies is welcome to get involved in our program. Probably the easiest way to see what is going on is to attend a weekly seminar . These events are free and open to the public. Everyone–faculty, students, staff, and community members—are encouraged to join us on Thursdays for the noontime seminar.

How can I find out about Peace Studies Program activities?

See our calendar of events. If you would like to be notified of upcoming events, please subscribe to our electronic mailing list.

Courses

Does the Peace Studies Program offer courses?

Courses related to peace studies are offered through several departments at Cornell. See the course listing available on this site.

Does the program have any online courses?

At this time none of the peace studies-related courses are offered online.

Graduate Students

Could you tell me about scholarship and financial assistance programs that you offer?

Cornell Ph.D. candidates, whose dissertation research is related to peace studies, are encouraged to apply for fellowships offered from the Peace Studies Program. There is also funding for travel.

What kind of employment do your graduates find?

In general, doctoral students affiliated with the program find jobs in academia, government, and NGOs. Others are working with international organizations like the UN and its agencies.

Visitors

How can I become a visitor to your program?

If you have your own funding, a Ph.D. degree, and an interest in pursuing a peace studies- related project while at Cornell, you are welcome to apply for affiliation. Please refer to the requirements page for more information.

Can I study at Cornell as an exchange student for a semester?

Graduate students at other universities who are interested in coming to Cornell to study must apply as non-degree students through the Graduate School. To do this, first contact the department at Cornell that coincides with your home department and discuss when and why you would like to visit. Non-degree students must pay Cornell tuition for the length of their stay. A small number of universities have negotiated exchange arrangements with Cornelll which allow their graduate students to spend time at Cornell while remaining registered in their home university. Visiting students who qualify under this program are not charged Cornell tuition. For more information refer to the ECIS information on exchange agreements or inquire at your own university to see if they have an exchange agreement with Cornell.
