Project Title:
North Korean Perspectives on International Law
Project Abstract:
Understanding the mindset of Kim Jong-un and the North Korean elite, including an understanding of North Korean views and interpretations of international law,can perhaps provide insights into potential solutions to the North Korea problem. Despite this major world issue, research on North Korea’s international law practices, be it motivated purely out of academic interest or practical need to “know your enemy,”is relatively scant compared to studies on Russian and Chinese international law practices. Furthermore, existing studies of North Korea have come from an outsider rather than insider perspective, which is possibly why the country has remained so elusive in nature to external analysts.
