Project Title:
Latin America and Anti-Hegemonic Contestation
Project Abstract:
My project seeks to understand why Latin American governments have tried to diminish the regional dominance of the U.S. over the last fifteen years and to what extent they have succeeded. I am interested in the case of Bolivia in order to examine the effects of revolutionary ideology and changes in the domestic political opportunity structure on the government's foreign policy. I want to travel to Bolivia to conduct interviews with key political actors (e.g. government officials and business and civil society leaders) in order to investigate these dynamics. Performing research in Bolivia will contribute to the development of my dissertation project.
