Initiatives
The Einaudi Center serves as a catalyst and makes strategic investments for new initiatives addressing contemporary questions and current events.
- Leading new strategic initiatives: The Einaudi Center undertakes two to three strategic initiatives at any given time. The objective is to have a focused and coherent set of activities within the same general field addressing contemporary questions in international studies. These activities are organized by the Center together with its associated Programs. While some initiatives are led by the Einaudi Center others are led by faculty affiliated with the associated Programs.
- Addressing current events: The Center responds to current events that have a significant impact on international studies such as the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 in New York and Washington DC. or the Indian Ocean Tsunami in December 2004. Activities, such as forums, lectures, seminars and workshops depend on the nature of the defining event.
- Offering seed grants: The Center launched a Faculty Seed Grant program in spring 2005. Grants for faculty are provided for research proposals that, once initiated, have the potential to attract outside support and thereby increase the amount of external funding available for international studies on campus. The Center is working closely with seed grant recipients to seek external support and to link the projects to priorities established by the Center and its associated Programs.
- Co-sponsoring international events: The Center also provides financial support for conferences, lectures, and other activities on campus relating to the strategic initiatives or other project priorities established by the Center and its Programs.
