On Sat. November 14, at the A.D. White House, the French Studies Program, with the support of the Africana Studies and Research Center and the Institute for Comparative Modernities, will host a workshop entitled: “History and the Experience of Haiti.” Schedule: 11am: Introduction 11:15am-12:45pm Gerard Aching (Professor of Spanish, Cornell): “On Being Adequate to the Task: An Abolitionist Translates a Slave Narrative” 2:15-3:30pm Laurent Dubreuil (Professor of Romance Studies & Comparative Literature, Cornell): “Anachronism and postcolonial theory” 3:45-4:45pm Susan Buck-Morss (Jan Rock Zubrow '77 Professor in the Social Sciences, Cornell): “Haiti, Universal History and the Humanities” 5-6pm General discussion, moderated by Natalie Melas. |
