Manon Michels Einaudi Pre-Dissertation Research Grant
This graduate research grant offered in the name of Manon Michels Einaudi by the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies and the Institute for European Studies honors the memory of a Cornell faculty wife and mother whose life exemplified much of the beauty of Western civilization. One award of $3,000 is given each year for graduate research in a field close to Mrs. Einaudi's own interests: European art and architecture, art history, literature, philosophy, and culture. Graduate students in those fields who wish to conduct short-term (usually 4-8 week) research in Europe and who are recommended by their faculty committee are eligible. The chief aim of the Manon Einaudi Grant is to help Cornell graduate students explore possible topics or otherwise launch their dissertation work, although applications from students whose dissertations are already in progress may also be considered if funding is available. The Manon grant is not intended for conference travel or to cover tuition of any kind. The annual application deadline is December 1st. Should the deadline fall on a weekend; the application will be due the following business day. Applicants will be evaluated based upon the following factors:
- Evidence that field research in Europe will advance the applicant’s doctoral program;
- The practicality of the applicant’s research proposal;
- The applicant's academic performance and qualifications to complete the proposed project;
- The strength of the applicant's letters of recommendation.
