These fellowships provide tuition fees and stipend for a full academic year for study of an approved foreign language and associated area studies. In addition, a select number of fellowships are provided for summer intensive language study, either in the US or in Europe, and provide tuition fees and stipend. The Fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis to a candidate whose research reflects a commitment to Mario Einaudi's goal of interpreting the United States to Europe and Europe to the United States. The competition is open to Cornell advanced graduate students in the social sciences, history and philosophy who plan to spend an academic year in Europe, preferably but not necessarily in Italy.
