Project Title:
The case of Cagayan de Oro, Philippines: Alternatives to traditional flood mitigation plan for river flow
Project Abstract:
As climate change increases and the frequency of 100-year events become more prevalent, conventional methods of flood control need to be re-evaluated. In the case of Cagayan de Oro, Philippines, the national government had decided to take action by building a dike which covers the length of the river due to the major storm event of Sendong in 2011. By building the dike many unwanted implications may take place. With further research through case studeies of other areas alike, interviews with local  governanaces and communtiy members, I would like to argue for a more robust method of flood managment.
