Lion, Leonard: 2012-2013 Small Grant
Recipients:
Leonard Lion (School of Civil and Environmental Engineering)
Project Title:
AguaClara International Travel
Project Abstract:
AguaClara is a Civil and Environmental Engineering student team that uses the concept "research, invent, design, empower" to provide communities with gravity-powered, sustainable drinking water treatment solutions. Over the past seven years, AguaClara has developed a robust parametric method to quickly design customized municipal scale water treatment plants that use no electricity. Unlike conventional plants which are often abandoned by rural communities within two years, AguaClara plants offer a long-term solution for clean water access. The funding will be used to support travel to Honduras in January of 2013 for students participating in Cornell University’s AguaClara Program. The objective of the trip will be to facilitate knowledge transfer between students in the AguaClara Program, the program’s partner in Honduras, Aqua Para el Pueblo, and existing and potential communities using AguaClara-designed water treatment systems.
