With assist from center, Ithaca joins Mayors for Peace campaign

Hiro Miyazaki gives gift to Mayor Myrick
Einaudi Center director Hiro Miyazaki presents a glass statuette to Ithaca mayor Svante Myrick on behalf of Mayor Tomihisa Taue of Nagasaki, Japan, on November 29, 2017. At Taue’s request, Myrick joined the Mayors for Peace campaign for a world free of nuclear weapons. In September 2017, Nagasaki atomic bombing survivor Toyokazu Ihara spoke at Cornell and presented Miyazaki with gifts to pass along to Ithaca's mayor. In exchange, Mayor Myrick gave Miyazaki a key to the city to present to Mayor Taue when the two meet in Nagasaki in mid-December. More than 7,500 cities worldwide have joined Mayors for Peace. Photo by Robert Barker, University Photography.
