George McT. Kahin Center
“Kahin Center is SEAP’s spiritual epicenter”
- George McT. Kahin
The George McT. Kahin Center for Advanced Research on Southeast Asia is located in the handsome and historic "Treman House." The house was built by Robert Henry Treman, the son of an enterprising local family and the first member of that family to attend Cornell University and be elected to its board of trustees. This historic house is home to SEAP graduate students, visiting fellows and scholars, faculty members, and SEAP's Publication and Outreach offices. Click the link for more architectural history.
The Kahin Center houses many artifacts and artworks from Southeast Asia. To see some samples of the Kahin Center collection, view the links on the left.
A variety of events take place in the Kahin Center, including notably, SEAP's Brown Bag Seminars (scheduled at 12:15 pm each Thursday during the academic year), as well as other student- or faculty- sponsored symposia and conferences. Click here to view SEAP'S event calendar and Virtual Tour.
To contact the Center regarding its availability for a meeting you may Email kahin-center@cornell.edu. If you wish to apply for office space, you may do so using our online application.
As a resource to Southeast Asian specialists and to the greater Cornell University community, the Kahin Center archives Southeast Asian theses, videos, maps, and many monographs.
