SEAP Brown Bag Lecture Series, “The Emergence of Asian regional marriage market and commercial match making industry: the case between Korea and Vietnam”

This talk discusses the emergence of Asian regional marriage market and commercial match making industry with the case of cross border marriage between Korea and Vietnam. First, it provides a brief overview of the emergence of new destinations of marriage migration in Asia including Taiwan, Korea and Singapore, which happened to share arguably similar economic development path. It raises a question whether the rise of the current mass cross border marriage is related to historically specific political economic development in Asia. Then, it explores the proposed question by focusing on the case of Korea and Vietnam and explores the structural conditions and processes of forming marriage market and commercial match making industry between Korea and Vietnam.
