The Master's Concentration draws on the resources of the consortium with Syracuse University to provide areal expertise in South Asia. It is designed for professionals who need specialized training and graduate students seeking an interdisciplinary degree. Students may take courses in any of Cornell's seven colleges and enroll in South Asia offerings at Syracuse University.
MA Requirements
The Master's Concentration in South Asia has three main requirements:
- Residency at Cornell for at least two semesters.
- Proficiency in a South Asia language equivalent to at least three years of study.
- A thirty-to-fifty page thesis, which normally develops from one or more course papers.
- While at Cornell, students are expected to develop depth in area studies through courses from core South Asia faculty and to demonstrate competence in more than one discipline.
Academic Advising and Student Support Services
Master's degree candidates at Cornell choose an advisor and a thesis committee. The South Asia Program has a large pool of faculty in many departments to serve on thesis committees for students in the Concentration. The South Asia Program office is a center for information and referral about courses, programs, and faculty members.
