The Cornell Peace Studies Program’s Elaine Scott Travel Fund provides Cornell graduate students with travel support for research or conferences within the United States. Applicants must be enrolled in a Cornell University graduate program leading to a Ph.D. degree. Travel must be completed by June 30, 2009.
The grants will support students whose work is relevant to peace studies. Examples of topics that might be supported include dual-use technology and weapons proliferation; the impact of new technologies and strategies, including those associated with the war on terrorism, on international humanitarian law and the norms of warfare; regional security issues; histories of war or peace; studies of ethnic conflict; topics in international political economy that explicitly treat the security dimensions of growing international interdependence; civil-military relations; terrorism; or post-conflict reconciliation and reconstruction.
Examples of eligible travel include trips to visit archives or to conduct interviews, attendance at professional conferences or meetings, or travel to confer with experts on a student's dissertation project. Our funds are limited; the average grant is expected to be in the $300-$500 range.
To apply for one of the grants, a student should submit:
- a cover sheet
- a short project description, including the proposed budget for the project
- a copy of his/her Cornell transcript
- a letter of recommendation from his/her committee chairperson
Deadline: Friday, February 29, 2008
