The Peace Studies Program visitors usually come to Ithaca for one or more semesters. These scholars conduct their own research on some aspect of peace studies and interact with faculty and students across campus. As well as being able to benefit from the wide range of resources at Cornell, they participate in program and university workshops and seminars, give lectures, and interact with students and faculty-it is a mutually beneficial arrangement for all.

Visiting Fellow Requirements

The Peace Studies Program has a small group of visitors in residence at most times, but space and resources are limited. Visitors provide their own financial support. Visitors with research agendas of interest to current program members are preferred. You are encouraged to inquire early.

Foreign visitors, especially, need to plan well in advance in order to arrange for a proper visa and funding. The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) has guidelines for foreign visitors: minimum funding requirements include $1,000 startup costs, plus $1,100 per month living expenses, plus $550 per month extra for spouse, and $275 per month extra for each child. For additional information visit the International Students and Scholars site.

If you would like to affiliate with the Peace Studies Program as a Visiting Fellow, you must:

  1. Conduct research on an issue related to peace studies, broadly defined.
  2. Be hosted by a Cornell faculty member associated with the Peace Studies Program.
  3. Specify the time period when you would like to be at Cornell (visitors usually spend at least a semester or up to the maximum of one year).
  4. Obtain your own source of support. The amounts required of foreign visitors represent the bare minimum and do not include the cost of health insurance coverage, which visitors must have.

Submit your request to the Director of the Peace Studies Program. Include a cover letter with the dates when you would like to visit and the names and contact information of two references, an up-to-date curriculum vita, and your proposed research agenda during your affiliation with the program.
