  International Relations Concentration

The Peace Studies Program has sought to be a catalyst, encouraging faculty throughout Cornell to increase attention paid in their courses to issues of war and peace. Program members also stimulate interest in peace studies through numerous guest lectures they give in a variety of Cornell courses. The Peace Studies Program does not, however, offer academic credit or a major or concentration. Academic credit is offered by the the regular college departments at Cornell.

Course Listing Database
Courses related to Peace Studies are offered through the regular college departments at Cornell. Undergraduate and graduate courses are offered through the departments of anthropology, government, history, physics, sociology, economics, and science and technology studies in the College of Arts and Sciences and through the Law School. Several undergraduate courses were developed with support from the program, including War and Democracy, and Introduction to Peace Studies.

International Relations Concentration
Undergraduates interested in peace studies may elect to pursue an International Relations Concentration. Like the Peace Studies Program, whose activities are not confined to any one department, subject, or area of the world, the international relations concentration fosters interdisciplinary learning. Several of the concentration advisors are members of the Peace Studies Program executive committee. Several peace studies courses fulfill concentration requirements, especially those in the World Politics and Foreign Policy and Transnational Processes and Policies subject areas. Global Thinking (Government 294/Philosophy 294) and Introduction to Peace Studies (Govt 393/Sociology 393) are core course requirements for the group on Transnational Processes and Policies.
