Language proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese can be demonstrated in 1of 2 ways:
1. Native speaker of Spanish or Portuguese
OR
2. Successful Completion of SPAN 2000, SPAN 2070, SPAN 2190, PORT 2190, or any higher level language course
Language courses below the 2000 level will not be counted toward the language credit requirement
Minor candidates must complete a minimum of 15 credits in approved Latin American Studies elective courses*
1. Selected courses must represent at least 2 different departments
AND
2. Students must complete at least 1 advanced level course in Latin American Studies (3000 – 4000 level)
* “Latin American Studies courses” refer to classes that contain at least 50% Latin American content. Students may petition for classes not included on the LASP list to count for the minor.
SPAN 2000 – Spanish for English/Spanish Bilinguals (Spring)
SPAN 2070 – Spanish for Medical and Health Professions (Fall, Spring)
SPAN 2190 – Intermediate Composition and Coversation II (Spring)
