Language Instruction Travel Grant Recipients for 2005-06

The Institute for European Studies congratulates the 2005-06 Language Instruction Travel Grant recipients! These grants supported travel to professional meetings or language pedagogy workshops for professional development and were awarded to Cornell professors, senior lecturers, or lecturers who teach European languages. The awards were made possible through our U.S. Department of Education National Resource Center (NRC) grant. Recipients are:

Martijna Aarts Briggs
Martijna Aarts Briggs (German Studies –Dutch Lecturer) has received funding which will enable her to attend the Colloquium Neelandicum in Belgium during the summer of 2006.

Krystyna Golkowska
Krystyna Golkowska (Department of Russian - Russian Lecturer) was granted funding to attend a seminar and workshop in Poland in January 2006. She will collect materials to support teaching of 2nd and 3rd year Polish language at Cornell, as well as gather material for a related textbook.

Ute Maschke
Ute Maschke (German Studies – German Lecturer). Professor Maschke has received funding to attend conferences in Poland and Germany in the spring of 2006. Both conferences examine aspects related to language testing and skill assessment.

Karine Proux-Garcia
Karine Proux-Garcia (Romance Studies - French Lecturer) was awarded funding to travel to France in the spring of 2006. She will conduct research that will be used to enhance the French language courses she teaches at Cornell.
