Recipients for 2004-2005
The Institute for European Studies congratulates Language Instruction Travel Grant recipients! The awards, made possible through our U.S. Department of Education National Resource Center (NRC) grant, are intended for professional development and have been awarded to Cornell professors, senior lecturers, or lecturers who teach European languages. The grants allow travel to professional meetings or language pedagogy workshops during the academic year 2005-2006. Recipients are:

Maria Hnaraki (Near Eastern Studies – Modern Greek Lecturer). Dr. Hnaraki has received funding which will enable her to travel to Greece during the summer of 2005. She will conduct research and develop course and teaching materials for Cornell’s Modern Greek Language courses.

Gunhild Lischke (German Studies - German Lecturer) was granted funding to attend an International Conference for German Teachers in Graz, Austria, during the summer of 2005.

Ute Maschke (German Studies – German Lecturer). Dr. Maschke has received funding to attend an “International Congress of Teachers of German” being held in Graz, Austria, in the summer of 2005.

Lena Trancik (German Studies - Swedish Lecturer) has received funding to attend a conference focusing on issues in “Modern Sweden” that will be held by the Swedish Institute in Stockholm in January 2005

Colette Waldron (Romance Studies – French Lecturer) has received funding to travel to France during summer 2005. Her research will include meetings with historians, journalists, and French people and will focus on developing course material for a new Cornell course called “French Through Current Events.”
