The institute will award grants of no more than $1000 to underwrite travel costs associated with professional meetings or language pedagogy workshops during the academic year 2008-2009. The awards, made possible through our U.S. Department of Education National Resource Center (NRC) grant, are intended for professional development and may be awarded to Cornell professors, senior lecturers, or lecturers who teach European languages. Seed Grant Competition

The Cornell Institute for European Studies is announcing a new Director’s Initiative designed to support research and teaching in European Studies at Cornell and to establish and deepen Cornell’s links with European universities. The CIES Seed Grant Competition is designed to assist Cornell's tenure-track faculty working on topics related to Europe or who collaborate with European colleagues. Seed grants are funded by a generous grant from the San Giacomo Foundation to the Director of CIES. All Cornell tenure-track faculty members are eligible and encouraged to apply, irrespective of their disciplinary background, college, or school of origin.
