The Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies
The Center for International Studies was established in 1961 under the leadership of Mario Einaudi, who was a celebrated scholar of European political theory and comparative politics. Since then, the center, which now carries the name of its founder, and developed into a major hub of international activity at Cornell, providing a home to 21 international programs on campus and a forum for a broad dialogue that cuts across scholarly disciplines
The goal of the Einaudi Center is to help bring about a truly international university at Cornell, in which international studies are completely integrated into the intellectual life of the university and all students and faculty benefit from active exposure to global affairs. To achieve this goal, the Einaudi Center:
- Catalyzes and invests in initiative addressing contemporary questions in international studies.
- Connects the campus’s international activities, projects, and programs through person-to-person networking, publications and web support.
- Hosts the university’s International Gateway– a web site created by the center to showcase Cornell’s international dimensions (www.international.cornell.edu). The center also develops and maintains the web sites of many international programs.
- Provides financial and logistical support for six area studies programs and 15 other programs that focus on specific themes in international studies.
- Sponsors or helps fund a substantial number of conferences, workshops, exhibits, talks, and other kinds of international scholarly exchanges.
- Brings world leaders to campus through the Bartels World Affairs Fellowship to deliver public lectures and meet informally with students and faculty.
- Supports graduate students’ international research through travel grants and provides academic advising for prestigious national awards such a the Fulbright US Student and the Fulbright-Hays Programs.
- Advises Cornell’s leadership on the state of international studies at the university.
